From the early years of their lives, children internalize and process their personal experiences, developing early knowledge and interests about the world around them, as well as skills in exploration and logical thinking. These knowledge, interests, and skills significantly influence what children will learn in the context of their formal education. Furthermore, they can be cultivated and developed significantly when children are 'initiated' into the Natural Sciences through appropriately designed activities.
The research field studying the education of young children in the Natural Sciences has been dynamically developing in recent years. This volume is a collection of twenty-seven papers that capture the relevant research trends in the Greek context. It aims to contribute to the dialogue taking place in the broader educational community about how learning experiences can be enhanced in the context of kindergarten and the early grades of primary school, and to outline systematic and long-term strategies for acquiring socially useful knowledge for the future lives of children.
