The Mathmos Astro is a classic Pop Design and has been in continuous British production since 1963. This range of Astro lava lamps is hand-polished by British craftsmen who bring the high-quality spun aluminum to a high silver shine.

The original Astro lava lamp from Mathmos was designed in 1963 by Edward Craven Walker, the inventor of lava lamps and founder of Mathmos. This classic design is made in Britain. The metal is hand-spun, anodized in a black matte finish, and then fitted with black feet and a white cord. The bottle is filled with Mathmos's unique lava lamp formula.

Since the day it was designed in 1964, it has been produced at the Mathmos factory in Great Britain. Each original Astro lava lamp is manufactured to the strictest safety specifications, and the particularly durable bottle is filled with Mathmos's "lava." This specific "lava" is a unique formula from Mathmos that allows it to form into fantastic and beautiful shapes while its colors are brighter and clearer.

The base of the original Astro lava lamp is made from high-quality aluminum while the bottle is glass. The halogen bulbs used are specially made for use in Mathmos Lava Lamps and direct the light and heat towards the bottle and not towards the base.

The original Astro lava lamp is available in different color combinations.
