numerical methods academic mathematics book brand new unused

Initial or boundary value problems for Ordinary Differential Equations can only be solved analytically in rare cases. Therefore, we resort to the approximation of solutions using numerical methods, which is the subject of this book. Given that initial and boundary value problems for Ordinary Differential Equations appear in many applications in science and technology, the book will be useful for both mathematicians and scientists who use Mathematics. The book is an evolution of notes that the authors have used in their courses over the last thirty years at the universities of Athens, Ioannina, Crete, Cyprus, Tennessee, and at the National Technical University of Athens. It is primarily aimed at students of Mathematics departments, Schools of Natural Sciences, and Polytechnics. The first five chapters address initial value problems; specifically, they cover a concise introduction to the theory of the problem, the Euler method, the Runge-Kutta methods, multistep methods, and Galerkin methods. The last three chapters study finite difference and finite element methods, as well as shooting and collocation methods for the two-point boundary value problem.
