The book "Soil Mechanics Elements" deals with the limit state of failure of geotechnical works. It develops the basic principles of the mechanical behavior of soil under undrained and drained loading conditions and the methods of limit equilibrium, upper and lower bounds, and intensive field, with which limit state problems are analyzed. These methods are applied in the calculation of soil pressures on various types of retaining structures, in the analysis of slope stability, and in determining the bearing capacity of shallow foundations and pile foundations. For the stability check of retaining structures and slopes and the adequacy of foundations, the methods proposed by Eurocode 7 are presented. Finally, each chapter of the book includes several solved examples that facilitate the reader's understanding of the various analysis and control methods.
