When the two hundred years of Independence of the United States were celebrated, our late friend Stefanos Zotos had to write an article for his Chicago magazine Pilgrimage and thought to take me as his subject. When the article was published and our friend brought us a copy of the magazine, I was very moved by what he wrote and thanked him warmly. At that very moment, the idea came to me to ask him to take on writing my biography. He looked at me carefully and said:
- No, I will not do you this favor. You must write your own biography.
- But, Stefanos, how is that possible? I have never written anything.
- Yes, he replied, you will sit down and write it. And I am absolutely sure that you will write it well.
Since there was no other way out, I decided to sit down and write my autobiography. Slowly, and almost without realizing it, the thoughts that came to my mind filled the pages, and the papers piled up in front of me.
