Operational research for decision making

The term Operations Research (or Operational Research or Quantitative Analysis for Decision Making) refers to the set of decision-making techniques that are based on a scientific approach to solving management problems.

Specifically, we refer to techniques that use mathematical models to describe the operation of a system and which are capable of contributing to the improvement of its operation. Operations Research is not just a collection of mathematical techniques applied in a management environment, but it is the cornerstone of the systemic approach to solving the problems faced by businesses and organizations.

Therefore, it applies a specific philosophy of addressing them, which incorporates all those factors that are considered important and influence the making of the "optimal" decision.

This book is an introduction to the quantitative techniques that make up the field of Operations Research or Management Science and aims to familiarize the reader with the available tools that can be used simultaneously with other decision-making processes in a business environment.

Our goal, of course, is not to train specialists in Operations Research, but to inform the reader about its capabilities and the problems it may face, and mainly to develop on their part a structured and systematic way of thinking and problem-solving.
