Understanding Capitalism - S.Bowles & R.Edwards

Volume B
Editions: Gutenberg
Pages: 303

Our book 'Understanding Capitalism' is an introductory manual designed to be used either as a semester course for Microeconomics and a semester course for Macroeconomics, or as a single semester course for both Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. However, it can also be used as a supplementary book or as a text for debate in courses that employ neoclassical methods in Economics or in series of interdisciplinary courses in the economic sciences.
'Understanding Capitalism' introduces what we call a 'three-dimensional approach to Economics', that is, a new perception of Economics and the Economy of the United States. The subtitle of the book: 'Competition, Command, and Change in the U.S. Economy', indicates the triple focus of this approach: Competition and choice through market interactions; command and exercise in markets, within businesses and in society as a whole; change in the economic institutions governing economic life, examined both from a theoretical and historical perspective, as an evolving process.
