This book is the result of collective writing of chapters by colleagues and students who conducted research as part of the course of the same title. Our aim is to cover part of the gap that exists in Greek literature in the particularly important and interesting field of Industrial Informatics.

Industrial Informatics is the application of modern informatics in industry and requires specialized techniques that have evolved rapidly in recent years. It is obvious that it is not possible to exhaust all aspects of the subject, which are many and very interesting, within the limited pages of this book. For this reason, we have limited ourselves to the concepts that are common to all Industrial Informatics systems. Starting from a brief history of the use of digital computers in process industries, we reach the new generation of Information Systems that consist of a complex of distributed computers to monitor and drive every phase of the production process from the design of the products produced to their distribution as well as the management of the company's resources.

Industrial Informatics is a fundamental need for the survival of every modern production enterprise and covers a wide range of specialties, whose synergy aims to maximize productivity, competitiveness, and profit of the enterprise. The continuous reduction in the cost of computing systems as well as the rapid development of both hardware and software is causing increasing interest in large-scale industries and small and medium-sized enterprises for more and more applications.
