Released in 1967, this was the second studio album from Texas psychedelic trailblazers. A landmark recording, it didn’t just help define psychedelic rock—it also anticipated punk a decade later and even resonated into the ’90s indie-dance era, thanks in part to Primal Scream’s cover of “Slip Inside This House” on their classic Screamadelica LP.

First issued in November 1967, the album barely made it beyond Texas, leaving original pressings rare and costly—and clean copies virtually impossible to track down, even fifty years ago.

For this reissue, every detail has been handled with exceptional care to create a facsimile edition that stays true to the original stereo release as issued by International Artists Recording Corp.

If Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators is considered the first fully realized psychedelic album, then this record saw the band raise the bar even higher—delivering what many critics regard as the definitive masterpiece of psychedelia.

96kHz/24-bit transfers were made from both an original LP pressing and a mixed master tape. When layered together, the audio matched, confirming the tape as the authentic original cutting master. The path from tape to lacquer was kept to an absolute minimum, with no rebalancing or EQ applied. A half-speed master was then cut at Abbey Road Studios, followed by a test pressing dubbed using the same method and compared against the original for dynamic range. The result: a pressing that sounds even better than the first edition.
