"We were taken by the Germans, 61 women from Chaidari and 850 men, on May 25, 1944. They put us in freight cars with barred doors. Outside Thessaloniki, we took 250 prisoners from the Pavlos Melas camp. In Weimar, the two women’s cars were separated from the train. This nightmarish journey lasted 14 days and we arrived northeast of Berlin, at the Ravensbrück labor camp. There they took our clothes, shoes, rings and dressed us in the striped clothing of the convict, with a number on the sleeve. And from then on, for the Germans, we are a number."
