Handmade Vintage Indian Patchwork Tablecloth
The handiwork offered here was made by my mother for me in the 90s.
It is a piece of erhnic character, inspired by the particular Indian culture and, in particular, the golden saree, the traditional women's clothing of the Indian Peninsula. It is a literally unique item; you won't see it anywhere else, because, basically, my mother used to craft drawings of her own inspiration.
This unique piece combines patchwork and embroidery techniques. To create the base, pieces of shiny fabrics (with or without patterns) cut into various shapes, pieces of wafer fabric and silver-embroidered ribbon in three patterns have been joined together (the patchwork technique). The diverse, contrasting use of colors in the fabrics creates a color explosion that alludes to Indian motifs. On this fabric base, embroidery begins with the use of silver thread, gold thread and metal thread in various stitches - chain, cross stitch, etc. In other places the patterns of the fabrics have been embroidered, and elsewhere the fabrics have been embroidered directly. The decoration is completed with scattered sequins, beads and shiny stones. The finish consists of a beautiful handmade lace/fringe that adorns the narrow sides of the embroidery. Lace, of the type of sulfide or “snail”, is braided with silver-gold thread, and its fringes are of different lengths. The back end is lined with tile wafer fabric. It is worth noting that the semen does not have a conventional form; for example, the opposite sides of the embroidery do not always have the same embroidery or colors. On the contrary, it tends to create a confusion, a tasteful confusion, as would be the case if we were in the separate, diverse and bustling India.
India is considered a country of colors, since there the color predominates in a wide variety both in everyday life of ordinary people and in art, but also in clothing. A typical example is the colored festival “Holly”, where spring is celebrated with a color war: the participants “fight” with each other and are covered whole with colored powders and water, symbols of love, joy and renewal of life! Of course, in Indian culture, each color has its own symbolic meaning; for example, blue symbolizes peace and wisdom!
I did the embroidery quite a bit as its beauty filled my space with colors and positive energy! For several years the workmanship has remained in storage. His condition, despite his years of life, is very good. There are no torn or pierced pieces of fabric, and no threads have been ripped or cut from its embroideries. All its plumes (beads, stones, sequins) are in place! His lace is like it was knitted yesterday! In fact, it is a piece that does not show its age at all! [Please look carefully at the photos, which complement my description. The working hand is given in the situation described verbally and photographically.]
Dimensions: 163 x 46 cm.
A Bohemian workwear suitable for both classic and modern spaces!
A piece with personality and a special aesthetic that will spread only positive energy in your space!
